How to Avoid Criticism!

In the 21st Century, it seems like everyone is being criticized about something!  Although everyone receives criticism at one point or another, it seems like Christians are the recipients of this criticism more than any other group of people in America.  We are criticized for our standards, our Bible, and even our political views…  so, I am here to help!

Did you know that there are steps that you can take in your spiritual life to reduce your chances of being criticized, and possibly avoid it all together?  Let’s look at a few ways that we can avoid all this criticism!

1. Do Nothing

“(35) And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.

(36) And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,

(37) And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.

(38) And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, This Is The King Of The Jews.

(39) And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.” – Luke 23:35-39

The first step to avoid criticism for your faith is to not do anything!  They can’t criticize you for something that you aren’t doing!  Don’t go to church, don’t pray to God, don’t read your Bible, and don’t ever take a stand for God!

Jesus could have easily avoided all this mockery and criticism if he would have just stayed in heaven!  Anytime you do something for God, you can expect to be criticized for it.  So, what can you do to avoid this criticism?  Don’t do anything for God!

2. Say Nothing

“(18) And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

(19) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

(20) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” – Matthew 28:18-20

We are commanded by God to spread the gospel across the entire world, but I can tell you from personal experience that this will most certainly bring some criticism your way!  The next step to avoiding criticism is to avoid talking about the things of God.

Don’t tell anyone about Jesus, don’t ask someone to watch their language when they are working with you, and never give glory to God for things going on in your life!  If you start telling people about Jesus, I can guarantee that it won’t be long until some criticism is coming your way!  Don’t want to be criticized for your faith?  Don’t say anything!

3. Be Nothing

“Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” – II Timothy 3:12

The Bible makes it clear… everyone that strives to live a life that is honoring to God will suffer persecution!  You will be criticized and mocked from time to time, that’s a guarantee!  Making the decision to be nothing for God is a great way to avoid criticism in your life!

Don’t be anything for God.  Just sit back and enjoy your own salvation.  Make sure that you keep God to yourself and enjoy what the world is becoming!

Obviously, this lesson is taken from a different perspective… but the important truth still remains.  Don’t worry about the criticism you receive for being a Christian!  Anything you do for God will bring about some form of persecution.  The world has never and will never agree with the Bible, so that means that won’t agree with us either!

Do you go through life without any criticism or persecution for your faith?  Are you doing what God is wanting you to do?  Do you tell people about Jesus like you should?  Are you are living your life your way and trying to see whether or not God fits into your plans instead of living your life for Him?  If we serve God, we will be criticized so the only way to avoid this criticism is to not serve God.  I don’t know about you, but I would rather stand with God instead of man!

God has called us to be different (peculiar).  We are supposed to blend in with the world.  The nail that sticks up the most is the one that gets hit!  People will always criticize someone that is different than they are.  Christians are called to be different than the world, so we will be criticized for it!

Be different!  Don’t blend in!
